A Passion for Volvos

The story of how a boy's passion grew into a man's way of life.

1996: The First Ride

It all started right from birth. I took my first journeys in our family's Volvo 850, which served as a safe means of transport in the early stages of my life.

1999: A Newcomer

My parents acquired a new, first-generation Volvo V40. We traveled for many years with this modern wagon.

2003: The P2 Arrives

A P2-platform V70, one of Volvo's most iconic models, joined our family. This car sparked a love for the brand in me.

2006: Love Ignites

My parents bought a new XC70, which proudly bore the license plate AKI-10. This car is the reason this website exists. Its reassuring character made a lasting impression on a 9-year-old boy and ignited a lifelong love for Volvos. We had the car until 2012, and it left behind only a great sense of longing.

2017: My First Own

After years of dreaming, I bought my first own Volvo – naturally, a reliable P2-platform V70.

2019: A Dream Come True

I fulfilled a long-held dream and replaced the V70 with my childhood fantasy, an XC70 D5. Technically identical to AKI-10, this car had to be crowned with the special license plate ITV-4.

2020: First Contact with the SPA World

A one-year-old V90 joined our extended family, marking my first contact with the entirely new, much more modern world of Volvo. The original owner had skipped on CarPlay / Android Auto, so it absolutely had to be activated...

2022: The Circle is Complete

Something I never thought possible happened: I was able to buy my childhood dream car, the original AKI-10, to accompany my existing ITV-4.

Autumn 2022: A New Family Member

Another Volvo joined our household when my partner acquired a 2001 Volvo S60.

2024: The Third XC70

In 2024, a third XC70 joined our household when my partner decided to get a winter car, so the S60 could be saved for summer use. This newcomer was named INK-4.

The Present: A Way of Life

Currently, we have four Volvos in our household: three XC70s and one S60. If we look at the extended family, the number of Volvos is a respectable six, with model years ranging from 2001 to 2020.

The Future

While the future is unwritten, one thing is certain: when the day comes, AKI-10 will serve as my wedding car.

So, Volvos have come and gone – though most have come to stay, and some have even returned home after a decade. During this time, their features and quirks have become familiar, so I dare say that with this experience, your Volvo is in good hands with me.
